Gianluca Fulvetti

Gianluca Fulvetti (born December 12, 1973 in Lucca ) is an Italian modern historian. He is particularly concerned with Italian history between 1943 and 1945 and the history of organized crime .

Scientific career

Fulvetti studied modern history at the University of Pisa and received the Laurea in 1998 . His thesis dealt with the entanglements of the Mafia and the Roman Catholic Church at the beginning of the 1960s in Sicily using the concrete example of the monks of Mazzarino .

His dissertation, presented at the University of Pisa in 2004, also dealt with the subject of the mafia, namely on the historical and family ties of the Italian and American mafia in the years between 1860 and 1974.

In the period that followed, Fulvetti was a researcher on several projects that dealt with resistance , culture of remembrance and war crimes against the Italian civilian population in World War II between 1943 and 1945. In 2004 he also worked as a historical expert for the La Spezia Military Court .

From 2011 to 2016 he headed the Historical Institute of Resistance and Modern History of the Province of Lucca . For the Istituto nazionale Ferruccio Parri in Milan , to which he was a researcher between 2015 and 2018, he worked on the creation of a database, which was co-financed by the German Federal Government , on all Nazi war crimes committed in Italy between July 1943 and May 1945 and that of the allied Italian fascists , and was published online in 2016.

Fulvetti has been Professor of Modern History at the University of Pisa since December 2018.
