Gianluca Susta

Gianluca Susta (born April 10, 1956 in Biella ) is an Italian politician .

Career

Susta obtained a doctorate in law and worked as a lawyer in higher courts. Politically, he was active for many years with the Democrazia Cristiana and the Partito Popolare Italiano . In 2001 he was president of the constituent assembly of the new La Margherita party , where he sat on the state executive and was regional secretary for Piedmont . He also sat on the board of the European Democratic Party . For years Susta was first a local councilor, then an assessor and from 1992 to 2004 mayor of Biella. He was also chairman of the provincial council of Biellaand from 2000 to 2005 Vice President of the Regional Government of Piedmont. He was also Vice-President of the Italian City and Municipal Council and a member of the State-City and Local Authorities Conference. On May 8, 2006, he moved to the European Parliament . In 2009 he was re-elected from the list of the Partito Democratico and was vice-chairman of the PES group . In the elections in 2013 Susta candidate for the Civic Choice of Mario Monti and moved to the Senate one.
