Giannis Papaioannou
Giannis Papaioannou ( Greek Γιάννης Παπαϊωάννου , also Yannis ; * December 24, 1910 in Kavala ; † 1989 in Athens ) was a Greek composer.
Life
Papaioannou studied at the Odeion in Athens and was a student of Arthur Honegger . In 1953 he became a professor of music theory and composition in Athens, and from 1965 to 1975 he headed the Greek Society for New Music.
He composed, among other things, five symphonies , five tone paintings and two symphonic poems , a choreographic prelude and a triptych for strings, three orchestral suites, an orchestral concerto, a piano and a violin concerto, chamber music works, piano pieces, cantatas , choral works and songs as well as drama music.
