Give me all your own

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The song is often sung in the Church of Reconciliation in Taizé

Give me entirely to you is by the Taizé Community written hymn .

text

Take everything from me that keeps me away from you.
Give me everything that leads me to you.
My Lord and my God, take me from me
and make me your own.

The text goes back to a prayer by Niklaus von Flües .

My Lord and my God, take everything from me that hinders me to you.
My Lord and my God, give me everything that leads me to you.
My Lord and my God, take me from me and make me your own.

Linguistically, the original text was simplified. Expressions such as “prevents” and “promotes” would have seemed strange to many German-speaking young people in Taizé. Now the song says, “Take everything from me that keeps me away from you. Give me everything that leads me to you. "

shape

The song is a four-part short chant characteristic of the Taizé community . The song is sung over and over again in a meditative manner. It can be supported by solo chants. There are also notations for keyboard , guitar , flute , oboe , clarinet , cello and bassoon . The song can (currently) only be sung in German (in Taizé it is actually common for the songs to be singable in different languages, see e.g. El Senyor ).

History and expansion

The song was published in 2017, the year in which the year of birth of "Brother Klaus", as Niklaus de Flüe is also known, was 600 years old. The song was composed on the occasion of the 40th European Taizé youth meeting at the end of 2017 in Basel , Switzerland .

The song is subject to the copyright of Ateliers et Presses de Taizé , so it cannot be assigned to a composer known by name, but was written by the brothers from Taizé. This is the case with many newer Taizé songs.
