Ownership

Gidor is a family-run company, which is now owned by two sons, Louis and Philipp Giger.

history

Founder Louis Giger senior laid the roots of today's company . (1928–2018) in 1957, when he opened his first hairdressing salon on Lindenplatz in Zurich-Altstetten . It was the first store to offer haircuts at low prices without prior notice. A year later, Giger owned two shops. Over the years, he added more to these.

In 1975 Giger pooled its salons to form the newly founded Gidor SA. The name is based on the family name Giger ( gi ) and the French word d'or (for gold ). Gidor opened other stores in the following years. The competition did not like it that Gidor offered hairdressing services at rock-bottom prices. This meant that under pressure from the competition, suppliers had to boycott Gidor, otherwise there would be no orders from the competition. Nevertheless, Gidor was able to prevail.

The chain initially specialized mainly in hairstyles for women, which still make up around two-thirds of its customers, later also specific offers for men followed. In 2003, Gidor was the first company outside the Coop Group to join Coop's customer loyalty program ( Supercard ). Since 2004 the company has been run by the two sons of the company founder, Louis Giger jun. and Philipp Giger.
