Giesela Brandes-Steggewentz

Giesela Brandes-Steggewentz (born March 11, 1949 ) is a German politician of the Die Linke party and was chairwoman of the Lower Saxony state association until February 9, 2013 . She did not stand for re-election at the state party conference in Hameln.

Life

Brandes-Steggewentz attended secondary school and is doing an apprenticeship as a tailor. In the 1970s she retrained and became a steno and phono clerk. She began her new professional career as a DGB secretary in Hanover. In 1974 she joined the SPD . In addition to her job, she completed a degree in ergonomics and then continued training as an adult educator. She then rose to head of department for women's policy, migration and cultural policy at DGB Lower Saxony. She has been the union secretary at ver.di in Osnabrück since 2000 .

In protest against the Hartz IV laws , she left the SPD and joined the WASG . In 2006 she ran for the mayoral election of Osnabrück. In the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2008 , Brandes-Steggewentz ran for the party Die Linke in the Osnabrück-West constituency , but only achieved 5.9%. Brandes-Steggewentz has been a member of the Osnabrück city council and chairwoman of the faction of her party since November 1, 2011.

Giesela Brandes-Steggewentz is married for the second time and has two children.
