As Gieser , even Jeser or Jesor in are Lausitz lignite mining region typical dischargeless subsidence and Vernässungszonen with small-scale peat formation in Ausstrichbereich steep asked seams designated. The term comes from the Sorbian jězor ("lake").

They were formed in compression moraine areas through the oxidation of the horizontally stored sediments raised to the surface by the inland glacier ice. While the erosion of gravel sands and ground moraines is protracted and leads to the formation of peaks and ridges, the weather-prone tertiary sands, clays and especially the coal on the surface are quickly washed away. The resulting channel-like depressions can run straight, gently winding or curved through the landscape. Since the lignite seam along the Gieser sometimes extends over a kilometer to the surface, lignite deposits could earlier be found even without drilling. However, the removal of the seams that had stood for days was difficult because of the increasing water flow in the depth.

The Gieser in the areas of Zeißholz , Otterschütz , Commerau , Weißwasser and Hohenbocka are typical .
