The Giesinger Flounder (Giesinger Bahnhofsplatz 2) was a striking building from the 1950s on the forecourt of the Giesinger Bahnhof in the Munich district of Obergiesing . The building was built in 1952 by the architects Konrad Stierhof and Hanns Fichtl as a cinema theater called Ba-Ki (short for station cinema ) and stood out for its round shape and the sloping, oval flat roof, which was popularly known as flounder .

The 665-seat cinema was opened on August 28, 1953 with the film Kaiserwalzer , and in 1971 the cinema ended. This was followed by a conversion and long-term use as an exhibition building for the Villeroy & Boch company . In 2012, plans by the real estate company Investa became known to demolish the building and to build a seven-storey medical center based on a design by the architectural firm Steidle + Partner , which was completed in early 2015.

Earlier efforts by the local council and the city administration to have the building included in the Bavarian Monument List as an example of post-war architecture had failed because of the structural changes that had been made to the interior in the 1970s. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation stated in 1989 that the building was "undoubtedly an interesting urban development solution", but that it was only a "torso" and an "architectural shell" because of the renovations.

Despite popular protest, the building was demolished in early February 2013.
