The Communist Party of Iceland ( Icelandic Kommúnistaflokkur Íslands , KFÍ. Or Kommfl.) Was a political party in Iceland from 1930 to 1938 . It emerged in November 1930 when the Marxist wing split off within the Social Democratic Party of Iceland ( Icelandic Alþýðuflokkurinn ) and founded an independent party. Chairman was Brynjólfur Bjarnason chosen which this office until the rising of the party in the People's Unity Party - Socialist Party ( Icelandic Sameiningarflokkur alþýðu - Sósíalistaflokkurinn ) held. The Communist Party of Iceland was a section of the Communist International .

The Communist Party of Iceland grew in influence among Icelandic workers, intellectuals and trade unionists. In the elections for the Althing in 1937, three communists (Brynjólfur Bjarnason, Einar Olgeirsson and Ísleifur Högnason ) were elected to parliament for the first time.

In 1938 another left wing split off within the Social Democratic Party. This left opposition around Héðinn Valdimarsson and Sigfús Sigurhjartarson formed the United People's Party - Socialist Party with the communists at the end of October 1938. This new party was able to double the Communist election success in the election for the Althing in July 1942 and win six parliamentary seats.
