Creating art

Gigi Porceddu - Lintu e Pintu

As a schoolchild, Porceddu began to carve figures from his rural surroundings with his pocket knife or screwdriver. He still works with simple tools to this day. He has created his main work so far in Sardinian gray gneiss . Gneiss is one of the hardest naturally occurring stones that Porceddu finds in the dry river courses in the area. In his world of ideas he lives strongly from the Sardinian tradition. The eventful history of Sardinia influences his work. From the heroes of antiquity to modern times, he chooses motifs that he recognizes in the soul of the stones. For some years now, Porceddu has made it his business to burn the physionomy of Sardinian faces as caricatures in clay with his work Lintu e Pintu (German: “this and that”). This project is intended to perpetuate the genetics of the Sardinians in clay and, as a mirror of the past two millennia, also to show the relationships to the neighboring peoples who occupied the island.
