Gilbert Sauvan (born July 15, 1956 in Peyroules , Département Alpes-de-Haute-Provence , † September 16, 2017 ) was a French politician . From 2012 he was a member of the National Assembly and stood for the socialists .

Sauvan, son of a farming family in the western Alps, joined the Parti socialiste in 1980 and was elected mayor of his birthplace Peyroules in 1983. In the course of the 1997 parliamentary elections, he became deputy to Jean-Louis Bianco , Member of the 1st constituency of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department. From 1998 he also represented the canton of Castellane in the general council of the département and was elected its president in 2012. In 2008 Sauvan gave up his post as mayor of Peyroules and was instead elected mayor of Castellane . In the parliamentary elections in 2012 , he ran in the first constituency, as Bianco had previously announced his withdrawal. He was elected in the second ballot with 58.6% of the vote.
