The yellow weaver ( Ploceus galbula ), also called oriole weaver , is a species of bird from the family of weaver birds (Ploceidae). The species, which is very peaceful in keeping and soon becomes very trusting, is occasionally kept as an ornamental bird in Europe.
description
The yellow weaver reaches a body length of fourteen centimeters. The males of the yellow weavers have a light yellow plumage. The face mask is brown. The elytra are dark brown, the individual feathers are lined with yellow. The dark circles are red, the beak is black. The lower bill is light gray at the base. Females are clearly less conspicuous, less intensely colored. They are whitish yellow on the underside.
Like many other weaver birds, yellow weavers live in flocks. The nests are often built in shrubs with branches overhanging watercourses. The female does the breeding business alone. The clutch usually consists of three eggs. These have a light blue or green shell color. The incubation period is 14 days. The nestling period is three weeks, during which the female feeds the nestlings with termites and other insects.
The range of the bird extends from the southwest of Arabia to the east of Sudan, Somalia and the north of Kenya. It can often be found near localities.
