With 173 hectares, Gili Air is the second largest of the Gili Islands off the coast of Lombok (Indonesia) and has around 1400 inhabitants.

Although the island is well developed for tourism, it has retained its own character to this day (as of August 2009). There is a traditional village with a mosque and at the same time quiet beach bars and restaurants that are also open in Ramadan .

The island can be circled on foot in around two hours, with the cidomo (horse-drawn carriage) in just under an hour. With the construction of the international airport on Lombok , a large flow of tourists is expected in the next few years.
