Ginger Islands

The Ginger Islands (from English ginger , 'reddish brown' ) are a group of islands off the southern end of the West Antarctic Adelaide Island . They are located west of Cape Alexandra .

The hydrographic unit of the Royal Navy mapped the islands between 1962 and 1963. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1964 after the hydrograph Kenneth Ginger (1928-1995), who from 1958 worked for the creation of maps for the British Admiralty for several years was responsible. The largest of the islands appears reddish when it is free of snow.
