Gintaras Songaila (born October 27, 1962 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian politician.

biography

After graduating from high school with distinction (gold medal) in 1980 at the 1st Middle School in Klaipėda , he studied medicine at the Kauno medicinos institutas from 1980 and from 1983 to 1986 at the Vilniaus universitetas . He became a psychiatrist and a narcologist . From 1983 to 1986 he was a member of the tourism club and actor at VU Kiemo teatras. From 1986 to 1989 he worked as a research assistant in the narcology laboratory at the Institute for Hygiene and Epidemiology . From 1989 to 1990 he was the Minister's Assistant at the Ministry of Health of Lithuania .

From 1988 he was a member of Sąjūdis and from 1990 a member of the Vilnius City Council. From 1991 to 1992 he was deputy editor of the weekly "Kovo 11", in 1992 deputy director of Rytų Lietuvos televizija , from 1993 to 2000 general director of Baltijos televizija , vice-president and then president of the association Lietuvos radijo ir televizijos asociacija and the Lithuanian section of the International Advertising Association . He is the owner of UAB Litevita (developer of digital TV in Šiauliai and Panevėžys ).

He has been a member of Lietuvių tautininkų sąjunga since 2004, head of LTS from 2005 to 2008, and member of Tėvynės sąjunga from 2008 to 2011 .

With his wife Jurgita he has the children Jorigė, Audinga and Žygintas.
