Giorgi Targamadze

Giorgi Targamadze (born November 22, 1973 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian journalist and politician of the Georgian Christian Democrats , of which he is also chairman. Targamadze was a member of the Georgian Parliament from 1999 to 2003 .

Targamadze was born on November 22, 1973 in Georgia's capital, Tbilisi. From 1991 to 1999 he studied at the Tbilisi State University . In 1999 he was elected to parliament for the Rebirth party, but left the party in 2003 and devoted himself to journalism. In 2008 he founded the right-wing conservative Christian Democratic Movement in Georgia , which won 8.7 percent and six seats in parliament in the 2008 parliamentary elections. He was the top candidate in this election. In the local elections in Georgia in 2010 , the Christian Democrats strengthened to 11.9 percent and became the second strongest force, after the United National Movement of President Mikheil Saakashvili . In the 2012 parliamentary election , in which Targamadze took over the top candidacy again, the party slipped to 2.0 percent and lost all seats in parliament. Targamadze was nominated by his party as a presidential candidate for the 2013 presidential election, with 1.1 percent he was the fifth-placed candidate out of 23 applications.

Targamadze is married and has two children.
