Giorgio Antoniotti (* around 1692 in Milan ; † 1776 there ) was an Italian composer and cellist.

Life

Giorgio Antoniotti, from a Genoese aristocratic family living in Milan, fled to Genoa as a sympathizer of the Spanish in the War of the Spanish Succession and joined the Spanish army for a long time. He then toured numerous noble courts in Europe and visited cities such as Vienna, Paris, Madrid and Lisbon. According to François-Joseph Fétis , he is said to have lived in the Netherlands for a few years. He later spent more than 20 years of his life in London . In 1761 his work " l'Arte armonica " was published there. He returned to Milan in 1770. There he dealt with the question of whether one can play all notes of the scale at the same time without it sounding unpleasant. This problem was examined by Padre Giovanni Sacchi and accepted as valid. Antoniotti died in Milan in 1776.
