Giorgos Giannopoulos

Giorgos Giannopoulos ( Greek Γιώργος Γιαννόπουλος , born December 5, 1954 in Ethiopia ) is a Greek politician and was mayor of the city of Rhodes from 1995 to 2006 .

Giannopoulos studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens . Since 1978 he worked as an architect and urban planner.

Politically, his career began in PASOK . For this party, Giannopoulos was a member of the Prefectural Council of the Dodecanese Prefecture for Karpathos and Kassos from 1983 to 1985 . After moving there, he represented the island of Rhodes from 1985 to 1991 in the prefectural council.

In October 1994 Giannopoulos was elected Mayor of the City of Rhodes. October 1998 and 2002 he was re-elected. Thus, from 1995 to the end of 2006, he held the office of mayor.

Giannopoulos is married and has two children. In addition to Greek , he is fluent in English , French and Amharic .
