Giorgos Mylonas

Giorgos Mylonas ( Greek Γιώργος Μυλωνάς , born March 2, 1959 in Serres ) is one of the most important industrialists in Greece . He became known to the general public as a victim of a kidnapping on June 9, 2008.

biography

Mylonas graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with a degree in mathematics and studied business administration at the University of Macedonia. He also completed an additional degree in market research at the London School of Economics with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and worked as a research assistant in the field of systems analysis at the University of Göttingen .

Mylonas is married and has three children.

Entrepreneurial activity

Mylonas is the chairman of the ALUMIL Milonas SA, a majority-owned by his family located Aktiengesellschaft and head of ALUMIL Group, one in the field of production of aluminum - semi- major group. Under his leadership, the group of companies, which is strongly export-oriented and has numerous subsidiaries and business relationships, particularly in the Balkan countries, has seen dynamic growth in recent years.

Mylonas has been President of the Northern Greek Industry Association since 2005, he is also Vice President of the Exporters Association of Northern Greece and Vice President of the Association of the Aluminum Processing Industry.

kidnapping

On the night of June 10, 2008, Mylonas was kidnapped by armed perpetrators when he and his wife were returning to his home in Panorama near Thessaloniki shortly before midnight . According to press reports, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of 30 million euros for his release . On June 23, 2008, they released Mylonas after paying a ransom, the amount of which - again according to unconfirmed press reports - should have been 12 million euros. Mylonas then announced his resignation from the chairmanship of the Northern Greek Industry Association in order to spend more time with his family, but according to recent statements he wants to remain in this office until 2009.

Four suspects were arrested a few weeks later. Among them was Vasilis Paleokostas , one of the most wanted criminals in the country. He escaped from a maximum security prison in Athens in 2006 with the help of a helicopter.
