Giovanni Antonio Galli
Giovanni Antonio Galli , Gianantonio Galli , called Lo Spadarino , (* before January 16, 1585 (date of baptism) in Rome , † 1652 ) was an Italian painter. His paintings were mainly devoted to religious subjects.
His works have often been mistakenly ascribed to Caravaggio . He was also confused with his brother Giacomo Galli, a painter, engraver, and frame maker.
In 1603 he worked in the Palazzo San Marco. In 1615 he created frescoes in the Quirinal Palace . He stayed with Cardinal Dolfin until 1620.
In 1638 he created the frescoes in the Palazzo Madama. He was u. a. The following images are attributed to: “The Martyrdom of Saints Mark” and “ Valerie ” in the Roman church of Santa Caterina della Rota as well as to “Saint Anne” and the “Mother of God” in the Roman gallery Spada. His famous work is the picture of the Guardian Angel in the church of S. Ruffo in Rieti .
