Valeria of Milan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to tradition, Valeria of Milan († around 60 in Milan ) was an early Christian martyr .

Valeria is considered the wife of Saint Vitalis of Ravenna and mother of Saints Gervasius and Protasius , but there are also traditions that see her as a consecrated virgin . After her husband's execution in Ravenna, Valeria wanted to bury him, which she was refused to do. She then moved to Milan, where a few days later she herself suffered martyrdom because of her faith. Since for Vitalis the martyrdom under Emperor Marcus Aurelius is considered more likely today than dating to the time of Emperor Nero , the classic dating of the martyrdom of Valeria to the time around 60 is also considered to be retrospective early dating.

Valeria is venerated as a saint . Her memorial day is, together with Vitalis, April 28th .
