Giovanni Battista Scaglia (born September 20, 1910 in San Pellegrino Terme , province of Bergamo , † February 16, 2006 in Bergamo , province of Bergamo) was an Italian politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC), who was a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) and was a minister at times. He was also a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) from 1972 to 1976 . In addition to his long political career, Scaglia wrote various specialist books on the life and work of personalities such as Cesare Balbo and Niccolò Machiavelli .

Life

Giovanni Battista Scaglia completed his studies, which he graduated with a Laurea in lettere , and then worked as a teacher. On June 1, 1948, he became a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) for the first time in the first legislative period in the province of Brescia for the Democrazia Cristiana (DC ) . In the second legislative period he was first between July 1, 1953 and January 19, 1954 Secretary of the Foreign Affairs Committee (II Commissione (Affari Esteri)) . He then took over his first government office and served as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Public Education (Sottosegretario alla Pubblica Istruzione) in the Fanfani I cabinet from January 19 to February 10, 1954, in the Scelba cabinet between February 11, 1954 and June 6, 1954. July 1955, in the Segni I cabinet from July 9, 1955 to May 19, 1957, and in the Zoli cabinet between May 23, 1957 and July 1, 1958.

In the third legislative term that followed, Scaglia continued to be Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Public Education from July 3, 1959 to February 15, 1959 in the Fanfani II cabinet and from February 19 to December 15, 1959 in the Segni II cabinet . In the fourth legislative period he served between July 22, 1964 and February 23, 1966 in the Moro II cabinet and then from February 23, 1966 to June 24, 1968 in the Moro III cabinet as a minister without portfolio for relations with parliament (Ministro senza portafoglio ai Rapporti con il Parlamento) .

In the fifth legislative period, Giovanni Battista Scaglia acted between June 24 and December 12, 1968 in the Leone II cabinet as Minister for Public Education (Ministro della Pubblica Istruzione) . He later held the office of Minister for Tourism and Events (Ministro del Turismo e dello Spettacolo) in the Rumor II cabinet from August 5, 1969 to March 27, 1970 . In this role he opened the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1970 , which took place from February 7th to 15th, 1970 in Val Gardena , Italy . He was again between February 17 and June 26, 1972 in the Andreotti I cabinet Minister for Tourism and Events. Most recently he was a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) in the sixth legislative period from May 25, 1972 to July 4, 1976 .
