Giovanni Francesco Rustici
Giovanni Francesco Rustici (* 1474 in Florence , † 1554 in Tours ) was an Italian sculptor and painter .
Life
Rustici came from a wealthy Florentine family and learned from Andrea del Verrocchio . In addition to a strong classical influence, his sculptures show Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo . His best work, the bronze figure “The Preaching John the Baptist” and three carefully modeled figures, is located above an entrance to the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Florence . In 1528 he went to France at the invitation of the French King Francis I and died in Tours. None of his French works have survived.
