Giovanni Paolo Fondulli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Giovanni Paolo Fondulli also called "Il Cremonese" (active 1568 - around 1600 in Sicily ) was a Renaissance painter in Sicily.

Fondulli came from Cremona , where he was a student of Antonio Campi , who introduced him to Correggio's art and whose style of painting he emulated. With the viceroy Francisco Fernandez d'Avalos, Marchese di Pescara , Fondulli came to Sicily in 1568.

In addition to altarpieces for churches and paintings for private clients, he worked in Palermo in 1592 on the design of the triumphal arch for the entry of the viceroy. Not to be confused with the sculptor of the same name from Padua (active 1468–1484)!
