Radoslav Banga

Gipsy , bourgeois Radoslav Banga (born May 6, 1982 in Prague ) is a Czech rapper .

Life

Gipsy spent his youth in Prague as a street child . Around 1995 he founded the hip-hop group Syndrom Snopp together with other young Roma , whose success was limited to the Czech hip-hop scene. His debut album as a solo artist Ya Favorite CD Rom was released in 2004 and made him known beyond the borders of the Czech Republic. It received a positive review from the French music magazine Mondomix , in which he was described as a young talent. Gipsy gave concerts at the Carnival of Cultures and at Kaffee Burger (both in Berlin ). During this time he was several times a guest at Radio Multikulti in Berlin or at Funkhaus Europa in Cologne. While he rapped exclusively in English on his first album, the lyrics on his second album Rýmy a Blues were mostly Czech. Rýmy a Blues was nominated in 2005 for an Anděl Award (Czech version of the Grammy Award) in the "Hip Hop & R'n'B" category. In 2006 he co-founded the band Gipsy.cz , which, unlike Gipsy, refers more to the traditional music of the Czech Roma. After that, Gipsy was no longer active as a solo artist for about three and a half years. In 2010 he released his third album Autentik , which he offered exclusively for free download on his official website. However, Gipsy made the condition not to distribute the songs on the Internet, but only to download them from his website. Nevertheless, he accepted voluntary donations, for which he published his account number. Another special feature was that he didn't release the album in one go, but uploaded a song every week. However, he broke off the Autentik project prematurely because the songs on the album were distributed on the Internet, which met with incomprehension.
