The Gira Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG , based in Radevormwald is a plastics processors and manufacturers of electrical installation technology and building system technology.

history

Gira has its origins in the establishment of the company "Gebrüder Giersiepen, factory of apparatus for electrical lighting" by Gustav and Richard Giersiepen in Wuppertal on August 1st, 1905 .

A few years later (1912) the company moved completely to its current location in Radevormwald.

In 1964 the company was renamed "Gira", which is made up of the first letters of the family name Giersiepen and the Radevormwald location.

Today the family company is run by Dirk Giersiepen in the fourth generation. It employs around 1,200 people in Germany.

Gira is a German company that operates in the fields of electrical installation technology, building system technology and plastics technology. In addition to the regional market in Germany, Gira is spread around the world through around 40 agencies and sales offices.

In 1970, together with Berker and Jung, the subsidiary Insta Elektro was founded, which, with around 500 employees in Germany, offers advice and project planning for light management and electronic components.

In 1990 Gira was one of the founding members of the European Installation Bus Association (EIBA) and later of the KNX Association ( KNX standard ) alongside Berker, Jung , Merten and Siemens . This standard guarantees the compatibility and interoperability of the various devices and systems from different manufacturers from many areas.

In January 2007, Gira bought Stettler Kunststofftechnik GmbH & Co. KG. Since then, production in this area has been carried out at two locations (Radevormwald, Burgwindheim).
