Girton is a small town in Cambridgeshire , England, about two miles northwest of Cambridge . The place with about 1600 households has about 4500 inhabitants.

history

The area around Girton was probably settled before the time of the Anglo-Saxons. The original name of the place Gretton , which means something like place on the gravel (English gravel ), as the first buildings were built along a gravel bank. St. Andrews Church is one of the oldest existing structures in the city.

Girton is linked to Cambridge by Huntingdon Road and, like Cambridge, is in the south-east of England, north-east of London (66 miles) and east of Oxford (120 miles). From Liverpool Girton 190 miles from Birmingham 95 miles.

Buildings

In Girton there is Girton College from 1872, which is part of Cambridge University . There is also a school and a large sports field , the Histon Football Ground. The Andreas Church is also worth seeing.
