Gisela Midwer (born March 30, 1931 in Frankfurt am Main , † May 24, 1999 in Marina del Rey , California ), better known by her Buddhist name Gesshin Myoko Prabhasa Dharma Roshi , was a German Rinzai - Zen master .

Since the 1950s she lived in California, where she became a Zen student of Kyozan Joshu Sasaki Rōshi since 1967 . Already in 1968 she ordained as a Buddhist nun and in 1972 she was confirmed as Oshō and was given the name Gesshin Myoko (moon-heart wonderful light). Thich Minh Giac authorized her in April 1985 as the 45th monarch of the Vinitarucci lineage and gave her the name Prabhasa Dharma (Brilliant Dharma ). She worked as a Zen teacher in Europe and the United States based on Vietnamese and Japanese Zen. In doing so, she developed Zen forms that are not tied to a specific culture.
