Gisela Trommsdorff

Gisela Trommsdorff (born December 24, 1941 in Münster ) is a German psychologist and sociologist and professor emeritus at the University of Konstanz . She is also a research professor at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) for the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP), Berlin.

Career

Gisela Trommsdorff was born as the daughter of Prof. Fro Trommsdorff and his wife Irmgard geb. Eckert was born in 1941 and studied from 1963 at the Universities of Göttingen, FU Berlin, Chapel Hill (UNC) (Fulbright scholarship), Cologne and Mannheim. She was a research assistant at the New School of Social Research in 1967 . She did her doctorate in 1972 at the University of Mannheim and completed her habilitation there in 1975. From 1978 to 1987 she was a professor at RWTH Aachen University and from 1987 she held the chair for developmental psychology and cultural comparison at the University of Konstanz. She is currently head of the developmental psychology and cultural comparison work group at the University of Konstanz.

She is a member of numerous scientific advisory bodies, e. B. currently as Co-Director of the Research College Human Sciences at the University of Frankfurt; as deputy chairwoman of the advisory board for the German Institute for Japanese Studies Tokyo; the International Advisory Committee at Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan; of the scientific research advisory board of the PH Thurgau, Switzerland. From 1989 to 2006 she was Vice President and since 2006 she has been President of the German-Japanese Society for Social Sciences.

She is interested in a psychology that focuses on people in their developmental process and in their socio-cultural context. Her research area is the socio-emotional and prosocial development of children in different cultures; the relationships between generations; the socialization of values ​​and social change in different cultures. Trommsdorff combines approaches from developmental, social and cross-cultural psychology. She has carried out numerous research stays abroad, especially in East and Southeast Asian countries. a. with visiting professorships at the Institute for Statistical Mathematics and Keio University (Tokyo), Kansei University in Osaka and University in Nagoya, partly at the invitation of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science .

Honors

She is a member of the Academy of Non-Profit Sciences in Erfurt ; she was appointed research professor at DIW Berlin, and she has been awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany.
