Giulio Base

Giulio Base (born December 6, 1964 in Turin ) is an Italian actor and film director .

Life

After a degree in literary studies from the Università La Sapienza in Rome and a degree in theology , he went to the Bottega Teatrale di Firenze , where he played under Vittorio Gassman . From the mid-1980s he played with various theater groups and directed, a. a. for pieces by Eduardo De Filippo . He also played roles in film, mostly with young directors; however, his interpretations were hardly noticed.

In 1991 he directed his first film, Crack , in which he also took the lead role. The film was shown at various festivals and received critical attention despite controversial scenes. The following films were also received with interest. Towards the end of the 1990s, Base increasingly turned to television work and shot a number of works, some in mini-series format , on themes from ancient Rome. From 2004 he was also the regular director of the successful Terence Hill series Don Matteo .
