Giuseppe Insalaco
Giuseppe Insalaco (born October 12, 1941 in San Giuseppe Jato , † January 12, 1988 in Palermo ) was an Italian politician and opponent of the Mafia. He was murdered by members of the Cosa Nostra .
Life
Insalaco was Mayor of Palermo from April 17, 1984 to July 13, 1984. He saw the fight against the Mafia as his main task . So he sat down u. a. for more transparency in the award of public contracts, as these were often given as consideration to the mafia. He resigned voluntarily after only three months in order to demonstrate against the obvious involvement of the Mafia in politics. On January 12, 1988, Insalaco was murdered by members of the Cosa Nostra. After his death, a list he kept of corrupt politicians under the title The Two Faces of Palermo was published in Italian media, among others. a. La Repubblica , published. The Mafia wanted to prevent this by killing Insalaco.
