action

At his high school, Ritsuka Uenoyama ( 上 ノ 山 立夏 ) meets the shy Mafuyu Satō ( 佐藤 真 冬 ) during the break at his retreat , who is sitting there with an electric guitar with a broken string. Ritsuka shows him how to fix the guitar, and Mafuyu wants to learn to play from him. Ritsuka weighs him down and refers him to the music club, but Mafuyu does not let up and finally Ritsuka takes him to his band. There Mafuyu meets the students Haruki Nakayama ( 中山 春樹 ) and Akihiko Kaji ( 梶 秋 彦 ) and is enthusiastic about the music of the three. Ritsuka lets himself be persuaded to teach Mafuyu something during the breaks. He hears Mafuyu singing and then absolutely wants him in the band. The other two finally agree after Akihiko also happened to hear the chant, and Mafuyu is recorded. Although he still has a lot to practice, he should be there for the upcoming performance.

The band was founded on the initiative of Haruki, who fell in love with Akihiko from the first days at university. When Haruki is looking for a drummer and he notices that Akihiko is a drummer without a band, he immediately invites him to see his secret love at least often. He met Ritsuka during a performance in a music bar. The high school student had already played with enthusiasm for many years and developed a lot of skills. So the three formed a new band, which quickly gained a good reputation, but only played instrumental pieces due to the lack of a singer. With Mafuyu they now want to change that.

Ritsuka is warned by a classmate not to have any further contact with Mafuyu. According to a rumor, he had a lover in middle school. After Mafuyu switched to high school, he killed himself. She warns Ritsuka that Mafuyu will be dangerous for him. He's shocked, but doesn't think about avoiding his new singer. Instead, Ritsuka writes a song, inspired by Mafuyu's singing. The band decides that Mafuyu should write the lyrics to it. He's having a hard time with it. He doesn't know how to express his feelings. An encounter with Hiiragi Kashima, a former friend of his and his lover Yuki, brings the memories back to life. The four had been friends with Yagi Shizusumi since they were little children. Yuki helped Mafuyu back then, who suffered greatly from his abusive father. In middle school the two became a couple, something few like Hiiragi knew about. At the time, Yuki, Hiiragi and Yagi formed a band with Yuki on guitar. After moving to high school, Mafuyu was separated from the others and one day the two of them suddenly had a heated argument. Two days later, Mafuyu found Yuki, who drank large amounts of alcohol and died from it. Mafuyu, who always loved music, received Yuki's guitar from his parents.

Mafuyu would like to share the feelings towards Yuki and his death, but cannot yet understand them herself. At the same time, Ritsuka realizes that not only does Mafuyu's singing inspire him, but he fell in love with him. Akihiko encourages him to stand by it and reveals that he is gay himself. He lives with his former lover, the successful violinist Ugetsu Murata. To everyone's surprise, Mafuyu only sings the song about his feelings and the sudden loss for the first time when he performs. The audience, classmates as well as Hiiragi and Yagi have come, and the other band members are overwhelmed. Following the piece, Ritsuka follows his feelings and kisses Mafuyu. When they talk to each other later, Hiiragi is happy that Mafuyu has come to terms with Yuki's death and fell in love again. The next day, however, Mafuyu is at home with a fever and Ritsuka blames himself for frightening him. But on a trip together they admit their mutual love and immediately ask Haruki and Akihiko for permission to have a relationship in the band, and receive their blessing.

During this time, the band wants to increase its popularity and get more gigs. Mafuyu in particular is motivated and also meets with Akihiko and Ugetsu to be inspired by their musical talent and interests. While the two lovers are doing well, Haruki is unsure whether he should accept engagements in other bands and Akihiko gets into a crisis because he cannot get over the love for his roommate, but they cannot be together either. Finally he leaves him in an argument and goes to Haruki. Akihiko reveals to him that he has long known that Haruki loves him, and they both have sex. But Haruki only feels exploited and both fall out, which soon also affects the band. But Akihiko stays with him, takes over the household chores like with Ugetsu and both live next to each other. Slowly they open up to each other again, the relationship between Mafuyu and Ritsuka continues to develop and the mood in the band improves. The friends are preparing for an upcoming band competition in which Hiiragi and Yagi's band will also take part. Mafuyu writes a new song for the competition in which he sings about his newfound hope. He was inspired by his friends and especially Ugetsu's skills and let his love for music ignite. Akihiko has also rediscovered this. He moves out of Haruki's home, finally says goodbye to Ugetsu and concentrates on his long neglected music studies. After he has made further progress with his studies and leads a regular life, Akihiko Haruki confesses his love.
