The Giza Peak is a turn 600 m (according to the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee 492.6 m ) high mountain on the West Antarctic Alexander Island . It rises on the east side of Fossil Bluff in the east of the island.
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) knew the mountain as the Sphinx for a long time . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee changed the name on April 15, 1988 to avoid confusion with objects of the same name in Antarctica. It is named after the Great Sphinx of Giza ( English Great Sphinx of Giza ).
