The Glass Laboratory is an extracurricular learning location in Berlin . With 12,000 participating pupils, the Transparent Laboratory is one of the most visited school laboratories in Germany. The book offers a wide audience further training and laboratory courses on current methods and applications in cell biology, genetic research and molecular medicine. The glass laboratory is operated by the “BBB Management GmbH Campus Berlin-Buch”.

Girls' Day in the Glass Laboratory

The three school laboratories of the Transparent Laboratory - GenLab, FMP-ChemLab and MaxLab - offer a total of 17 experimental courses on the subjects of genetics, neurobiology, cell biology, ecology and chemistry for secondary school students.

Under the guidance of scientists from the research facilities on the Berlin-Buch campus , the pupils experiment independently in small groups. The aim is to give the students an authentic insight into the life sciences as well as into corresponding fields of activity and career prospects by working in real laboratories and through contact with scientists.

The BiotechPark is part of the Berlin-Buch campus and is located in the northeast of the city, in the Buch part of the Pankow district . The technology park is well developed by public transport and can be easily reached by buses and S-Bahn .

history

The Transparent Laboratory was founded in 1999 as one of the first school laboratories in Germany. Initially planned as an information center for genetic engineering and biotechnology in the BiotechPark Berlin-Buch for the general public, the Transparent Laboratory quickly oriented itself to the growing need for extracurricular experimentation offers for the upper school level. The number of pupils has increased from 1,550 in the opening year to 12,500 in 2009.

Others

The Transparent Laboratory is part of the school laboratory network "GenaU", a networking initiative of 15 school laboratories from various research institutions and universities in Berlin-Brandenburg. It is also a member of the network of school laboratories in the Helmholtz Association with a total of 23 school laboratories as well as the Federal Association of Laboratory Locations .
