Glória Muianga

Glória Américo Fungate Muianga , Glória Muianga for short (born February 1, 1951 in Lourenço Marques , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican radio host of Rádio Moçambique .

Life

Youth and education

Glória Muianga was born on February 1, 1951 in the capital of the Portuguese colony of Portuguese East Africa. Her mother died when she was six years old, so that her father, who worked as an electrician in a hospital ward, had to look after the five children alone. Despite the collegial support of the nurses, this did not succeed, so that Muianga's father gave the children to the Casa da Educação da Munhuana - a kind of home for disadvantaged children. There the five children grew up until they were adults.

Work at Rádio Moçambique

After completing school, Muianga first worked as a simple clerk in the city's university library. After Mozambique gained independence, the opportunity arose to work for the radio station Rádio Moçambique . After an interview, she received an internship there in 1975 and was then employed there permanently.

Muianga has been working for the radio station since then and is considered a permanent institution of the station. Many Mozambicans are not familiar with her name, but primarily with her voice, as she worked for a long time as one of the broadcaster's main speakers. She was best known for her program Uma data na história (English: A date in history), in which she told events and stories from around the world. Her voice is known u. a. but also for the common telephone caller, as she spoke the widespread announcement “neste momento, not é possível estabelecer a ligação que deseja” (German: “At this moment it is not possible to establish the connection you want”).

Muianga made up a formal education in 1995, she studied accounting at the Maputo Business School . She is still active at the station today and was also a member of the company's board of directors from 2008 to 2011. According to media reports, she continues to speak the radio news of the state radio station once a week.

Private

Muianga married in 1969 but is currently divorced. She has two children, one of whom is national soccer player Hélder Muianga .
