Knight of Fortune was a game show on the private broadcaster RTL that was broadcast monthly from 1996 to 1997. Due to some scandals , the show caused a sensation and sparked a debate about "disgust TV". Soldiers of Fortune was discontinued after eleven episodes.
Gameplay
Three candidates, the so-called "soldiers of fortune", played against each other in order to have a wish fulfilled in the end. The maximum profit was 170,000 D-Marks. First, the candidates had to get exactly 10,000 marks out of a bathtub. The best appraiser was allowed to increase his starting capital to two hundred one -armed bandits in the Las Vegas round . Then other candidates were selected from the audience who could also achieve victory. In three game rounds, the cards are shuffled every time, so that you could suddenly go home empty-handed. In each shipment, up to 500,000 D-Marks were in circulation that could be won.
Altogether there are two intertwined game rounds:
Gambler rounds
In the gaming rounds , several games were played with any candidate from the audience. As a winner you could win cash or material prizes. The "car game" was extremely popular, in which the candidate sold his car to the broadcaster and could win a brand new car or an old used car instead of the old one in a round of poker .
Candidate Rounds
In the candidate rounds, one of three candidates who had previously applied could have a wish of around 100,000 D-Marks fulfilled by the broadcaster. The candidates were able to collect points in several games, whereby the favor of the spectators also flowed into the number of points. In the semifinals, one of the candidates fell into a pool filled with slime if there were too many incorrectly answered questions . In the final, the remaining players had to score between 100 and 200 on the so-called knight's wheel , an oversized wheel of fortune . Before that, the candidate was allowed to decide whether to turn the wheel four or five times. After each spin he was allowed to decide whether the achieved value should be subtracted from the score or added to it.

The show Glücksritter was exposed to great criticism, as it mostly caused disgust in viewers with the existing disciplines . In addition, many of the disciplines were rated as inhuman.
