Stephan Kareem El Shaarawy ( Arabic ستيفان كريم الشعراوي, DMG Stīfān Karīm aš-Šaʿrāwī ; * October 27, 1992 in Savona ) is an Italian - Egyptian soccer player who has been under contract with Shanghai Shenhua since July 2019 .

Beginnings

The son of an Egyptian father and an Italian mother played in the youth team of CFC Genoa from 2006 to 2010 . He made his Serie A debut on December 21, 2008 at the age of 16 when he came on as a substitute for Boško Janković in the 83rd minute of his club's game against Chievo Verona . In June 2010 he signed a contract on loan with the second division team Calcio Padova , which was limited to one year. Padova also received the option of a permanent commitment of the midfield player.

AC Milan

For the 2011/12 season El Shaarawy moved to AC Milan on a co-owner basis . In return, Alexander Merkel switched to CFC Genoa on the same basis. He made his debut for Milan on September 1, 2011 in a test match in Como (2-1). In June 2012, the club bought the missing 50% of the transfer rights to El Shaarawy. In the 2012/13 season El Shaarawy was a regular at Milan; he scored goals and gave assists in Serie A and in the Champions League. In February 2013 he extended his contract until 2018.

Via Monaco to Rome

For the 2015/16 season El Shaarawy moved to AS Monaco on loan for one season . For the Monegasque he played 24 competitive games in all competitions up to December 19, 2015, in which he scored three goals. Since a purchase obligation would have taken effect from the 25th competitive game, El Shaarawy was no longer in the squad.

On January 26, 2016 El Shaarawy finally moved to AS Roma for a loan fee of 1.4 million euros until the end of the 2015/16 season . The Roma then had a purchase option of 13 million euros. In his league debut for his new club against Frosinone Calcio , he also scored his first goal for AS Roma in a 3-1 home win when he scored 2-1 with a hoe . In total, he scored eight hits in 16 missions. For the 2016/17 season , El Shaarawy was committed to the fixed transfer fee of 13 million euros and signed a contract until June 30, 2020.

National team

El Shaarawy took part in the U-17 European Championship in Germany in 2009 , where he reached the semi-finals with the Italian selection .

On August 15, 2012, he made his debut in the senior team at a 1: 2 defeat in a friendly against England . El Shaarawy subsequently ran regularly under Cesare Prandelli and took part in the 2013 Confed Cup . Even under Prandelli's successor Antonio Conte , El Shaarawy was a regular part of the Italian squad.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Italian squad . His only appearance was in the third group game against Ireland, when the group victory was already certain. He was substituted on in the final minutes. Italy were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

As a result, El Shaarawy played individual games under Gian Piero Ventura . In qualifying for the 2018 World Cup , Italy finished second behind Spain . In the play-offs - El Shaarawy came on in the second leg - Italy lost to the Swedish team . Since then, El Shaarawy has not been considered.
