The hot charcoal or panda barb ( Haludaria fasciata ( Lat .: fasciatus = striped), Syn . : Puntius fasciatus , Barbus fasciatus , Puntius melanampyx ) is a freshwater fish from the carp family (Cyprinidae). Their distribution area is in southern India . It is the type species of the genus Haludaria .

features

The hot charcoal barb is three to four inches long. Their body is high-backed and typical of the species of Puntius . The fish have two pairs of barbels . Their coloring is variable. The basic color can be ocher and, depending on the light, appear green or yellow, rosy or deep red. The back is darker, often green-gold, the belly is whitish. The sides of the body are provided with three to five wide, irregular, black or dark brown cross bars and a longitudinal band, which can be more or less clearly seen depending on the mood. Since the scales can have black borders, a network drawing can appear on the flanks. The pectoral and ventral fins are reddish, the anal and dorsal fins are red with a black border.

Way of life

The hot coal barb lives mainly in flowing waters. Spawning females lay around 200 eggs. The fish larvae hatch after about 30 hours and swim free after four to five days.
