Dedication names

Francis Day (1829-1889) honored Jerdon, the discoverer of this new fish species, in 1873 in the specific epithet for a species belonging to the Erethistidae family called Hara jerdoni (syn. Pomacentrus jerdoni or Erethistes jerdoni).

In 1842 Edward Blyth (1810–1873) paid him tribute in the name of the Hindu Weih ( Aviceda jerdoni ) and honored him as a naturalist who contributed much to the zoology of India with his ornithological research studies.

First descriptions by Thomas Caverhill Jerdon

Thomas Caverhill Jerdon was the first author to describe some species and subspecies. Occasionally he is found in the literature as a co-author for the genus Tickellia Blyth , 1861, which Blyth created for the monotypical species of the broad-billed warbler ( Tickellia hodgsoni ) ( Moore, F , 1854), for the rust-bellied short-winged ( Brachypteryx hyperythra ) Blyth , 1861 and for a subspecies of the mountain tailor bird ( Orthotomus cucullatus coronatus ) Blyth , 1861. Since Blyth published the article in the Proceedings of the Scientific Meetings of the Zoological Society of London , this is the sole lead author according to the International Nomenclature Rules, although all genera and species described have Jerdon's name as an addition and Jerdon provided the original notes to the article.
