The Erethistidae are a fish family from the order of the catfish-like (Siluriformes). They occur in North India , Nepal , Southwest China , Bangladesh and Myanmar .

features

Erethistidae resemble the mountain catfish (Sisoridae), but are significantly smaller with body lengths of about two to a maximum of ten centimeters. Your shoulder girdle has a coracoid process that extends well behind the attachment of the pectoral fins . They have four pairs of barbels and usually a large adipose fin . The species of the subfamily Continae have a long, thin adhesion apparatus on the belly, which is formed by integument folds and serves to hold the position in fast-flowing waters. The other subfamily, the Erethistinae, lack such an apparatus.

Systematics

The Erethistidae are assigned to the superfamily Sisoroidea, which, according to molecular biological studies, is placed in the “Big Asica” group. The family comprises two subfamilies with seven genera and over 30 species :
