Glütsch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glütsch (in the local dialect : [ (ɑ) g̊lʏtʃ ]) is the name of a valley on the south side of the Schwalmerngrat in the Bernese town of Frutigland . It extends from Glütschnessli, which is surrounded by forest, flanked by Glütschstocke, over the Unter and Ober Glütschalp to Glütsch Urschel, above which it is closed off to the east by the Hoganthorn ( 2777  m ) and the Drettenhorn ( 2794  m ); in the north it is bounded by the Glütschhörnli , in the northwest by the Britterehöreli . The valley is traversed by the Glütschbach , which merges in the Spiggengrund with the Färrichbach to form the Spiggenbach .

The name Glütsch is first recorded in 1438 («an Glủtsch»). To explain its origin, mhd. Klutzen / klützen 'gluck (s) en' or a hypothetical form rom. * Glutšja / * klutšja ' die chuckling ' is cited; in both cases the name would originally refer to the stream and would then have been transferred to the surrounding area.
