Glanawydan Abbey (perhaps identical to Glangragh Abbey - Vallis Caritatis?) Is a short-lived former Cistercian monk abbey in County Waterford in what is now the Republic of Ireland . The former monastery was in Faugheen near Kilmacthomas in County Waterford.
history
The monastery was founded either in 1170 or between 1195 and 1200 as a subsidiary of Inislounaght Abbey and thus belonged to the filiation of the Clairvaux Monastery Abbey . Around 1227 it turned out that the monastery was too poor and had too few monks and conversations to be able to continue. The visitor Stephen of Lexington therefore decided in 1228 that the monastery should be united with Dunbrody Abbey , of which it became grangie in 1232. In 1278 the former monastery returned to Inislounaght Abbey with the rehabilitation of the line from Mellifont Abbey .
