Glanderston Reservoir

The Glanderston Reservoir is a small reservoir in Scotland; it is about ten kilometers southwest of Glasgow in Renfrewshire . On December 30, 1842 , the dam broke and caused a tidal wave that killed between seven and nine people.
The construction
The reservoir was created to supply the local industry with water. The dam was made of loose material.
The misfortune
During a storm, the dam broke after it was flooded. The tidal wave spilled over the meadows from Glanderston House to South Arthurlie Printworks and the village of Nether Arthurlie, where several people drowned and major property damage occurred. According to three different sources, seven, eight or even nine people died in the accident.
