The Glasmacherbrunnen (also called Glasbläserbrunnen) is a monument and is located in the Quadrath-Ichendorf district , one of the 15 districts of the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district .

description

With his head tilted, the glassblower grasps the glassmaker's pipe with both hands , at the end of which, just above the floor, is the hollow shape of the glass. The statue stands on a pedestal in the middle of a circular fountain basin. The figure embodies a glassblower in a timeless representation.

In 2012 the area around the fountain was redesigned together with the fountain. Only the figure on the base remained of the old design. After the renovation, the fountain was put back into operation on September 20, 2012.

history

The glassmaker's fountain was created in 1963 by the Cologne artist Gilbert Kruft (* 1939 † 2015 in Bologna). The fountain recalls an important chapter in Quadrath-Ichendorfer's economic history: the Ichendorfer glassworks . The company existed with interruptions from 1898 to 1986 and had made a name for itself far beyond the region for the quality of its products. The English royal court was also one of the customers of the Ichendorfer Glashütte. Kruft worked as a designer for the hut as early as 1954.

monument

The Glasmacherbrunnen is registered with the monument number 129 as an architectural monument in the list of architectural monuments in Quadrath-Ichendorf . The description reads:

The fountain system was built in 1963 based on a design by the artist Gilbert Kruft (incorrectly Kroff in the original ). The statue, which stands on a trapezoidal base in the middle of the circular fountain basin, was cast in collaboration with the Cologne factory schools . The figure embodies a glassblower in a timeless representation. The fountain is reminiscent of the Ichendorfer Glashütte , which had made a name for itself far beyond the region for the quality of its products.
