The smooth-nosed (Vespertilionoidea) are together with the hare- mouthed (Noctilionoidea) and the Emballonuroidea a subdivision of the Yangochiroptera , a subordination of the bats (Chiroptera).
The superfamily smooth noses are assigned to five families.

- Long-winged bats (Miniopteridae)
- Bulldog bats (Molossidae)
- Funnel ears (Natalidae)
- Smooth-nosed (Vespertilionidae)
