Glebe , also known by their nickname The Dirty Reds , were an Australian rugby league club based in Sydney . Between 1908 and 1929 the team was active in the New South Wales Rugby League Premiership .

history

The Dirty Reds , founded on January 9, 1908, were the first ever Australian rugby league club. Accordingly, Glebe was one of the founding members of the New South Wales Rugby Football League (NSWRFL) in the same year . In 1911 they won the Minor Premiership as the best team of the regular season , but lost in the Grand Final against the Eastern Suburbs . 1912 and 1915 Glebe was second in the table, which in those seasons without a Grand Final was the runner-up championship. In 1922 the Dirty Reds reached the final again, but had no chance against the North Sydney Bears . Then began a sporting decline. In 1929, the NSWRFL committee decided to exclude Glebe from gaming. The reasons for this have not yet been fully clarified. The exclusion from Sydney's elite league also marked the end of the Dirty Reds' game operations .
