The Gleislose Bahn Blankenese – Marienhöhe was a trolleybus operation in what is now the Hamburg district of Blankenese .

history

The approximately three kilometer long route connected the Blankenese state train station on the Altona-Blankeneser railway with the villa district of Landhauskolonie Marienhöhe to the west . The plant was opened on August 12, 1911 and had to be closed again on August 1, 1914 because of the outbreak of the First World War , among other things because the copper for the overhead lines for the ammunition factories was requisitioned. In 1915 the company was finally dissolved.

The route was only used for passenger transport, goods or mail were not transported. The operation was carried out with the two motor vehicles "1" and "2". They each had twelve seats and ten standing places. The travel time was twelve minutes. One car drove every 30 minutes on weekdays and both carriages every 15 minutes for excursion traffic on weekends. It is not known where the depot was located.

The trackless electric passenger train was built on behalf of Blankenese-Marienhöhe-Terrain-A.-G. based on the so-called Schiemann system , developed by the Saxon company Society for Trackless Railways Max Schiemann & Co. from Wurzen . As a special feature, the vehicles used in Blankenese only had one instead of the usual two pantograph poles . This was possible because the two wires of the overhead line were arranged at a distance of only 15 centimeters from each other. So they were much closer to each other than usual with other trolleybus systems. This so-called single - rod contact system was only used in a few companies. In contrast to today's trolleybus routes, it was also only laid out on a single track. If the two vehicles met, one of them had to pull off the pantograph rod.
