Glen Keith is a whiskey distillery in Keith , Moray , Scotland .

Chivas Brothers , who already operated the Strathisla distillery opposite , began building a new distillery in Keith in 1957. It was the first distillery to be established in Scotland after the boom in the Victorian era . The company, baptized Glen Keith , was completed in 1960. In addition to commercial whiskey production, Glen Keith also served the spirits group as a test facility for developing innovative techniques. Initially three stills were used, one coarse-branded and two fine-branded stills, which produced a triple- distilled malt whiskey ; however, it could simply be switched to double distillation. The triple distillation that is common in the Lowlands whiskey region , on the other hand, is not common in the Speyside region and reflects the experimental nature of the distillery. Later the number of stills was increased to six. The first gas-heated pot stills were installed in the mid-1970s .

The Glen Keith distillery also produced its own malt and yeast . The Strathisla distillery was also supplied with malt via a pressure pipe. For a time a peated malt whiskey was produced, which the independent bottler Signatory sold under the trade name Glenisla . It is worth mentioning that the peat smoke aroma was not created by peat malt, as is usual, but by water treated with peat smoke.

In 1999, Glen Keith was mothballed and in 2001 became the property of Pernod Ricard . The distillery was reopened in June 2013.
