The Glenlochar Bridge is a road bridge in the village of Glenlochar in the Scottish Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.

description

The masonry viaduct is located on the eastern edge of Glenlochar. It was built between 1797 and 1799 and leads the B795 over the Dee , which at this point forms the border between the Parishs Crossmichael and Balmaghie . The final weir of the Loch Ken reservoir runs a short distance upstream .

The Glenlochar Bridge spans the Dee in six identical segment arcs . It is around 95 m long in total. Its masonry is made of quarry stone , with the arches lined with granite blocks . The pillars emerge in a semicircle. In the spandrels, blind round plaques are edged in a polished manner. Simple quarry stone parapets with granite natural stone caps delimit the road. The road is designed with a slight hump.
