Glenn Luther Martin ( January 17, 1886 - December 5, 1955 ) was an American businessman and pilot.

Martin took over sales outlets for Ford and Maxwell in Santa Ana in 1908 . After building his own airplane in 1908, a copy of Glenn Curtiss's machine , powered by a 15 hp Ford engine, he taught himself to fly in 1909 and 1910.

He then founded the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company on August 16, 1912 with 14 employees to produce and market his aircraft. Under the auspices of the First World War , he first merged his company with the Wright Company in 1916 to found the Wright-Martin Aircraft Company . However, Martin withdrew on September 10, 1917 , because he did not agree with the situation there, and founded the Glenn L. Martin Company .

Martin did not care about details of his company. Its aircraft were designed by employed engineers and the production was organized by appropriate specialists. In addition to Donald Wills Douglas , Lawrence Bell , James Smith McDonnell , William Boeing was initially an employee of Glenn Martin.

In 1932 he received the Collier Trophy for his special achievements . Martin ran his company for over 40 years.
